Chanel returned to New York this week for the Métiers d’Art 2026 show, the first one designed by Matthieu Blazy. Instead of choosing a museum or a classic city landmark, the house staged the event inside an abandoned subway platform at Bowery. A$AP Rocky, Solange, G-Dragon, Tilda Swinton, Kristen Stewart and many others made their way underground for a show that brought Paris craftsmanship into the everyday reality of New York.
The collection was inspired by the people you meet in the city: students, artists, commuters, journalists, and everyone in between. Blazy mixed different eras and silhouettes, from light tweeds to soft knitwear and evening looks. There were small touches of humour too, like the coffee-cup bags or the outfits printed with dogs. Throughout the show, the work of Chanel’s artisans stayed central, from embroidery to hand-woven tweeds and feathers created at le19M.
A short film by Michel Gondry, featuring A$AP Rocky and Margaret Qualley, also played a role in the presentation. It set the tone for the show and highlighted the subway as a place where all kinds of stories meet.
With this collection, Chanel looked at New York with fresh eyes and showed a more playful and relaxed side of Métiers d’Art, while still celebrating the savoir-faire that defines the house.
